Name: Rowan
Nickname/Alias: Red or Little Red
Approximate Age: 18/19... ish
Source: Little Red Riding Hood
Appearance: Rowan is easily picked out of a crowd by the red cape she never seems to leave home without. It was a gift and in such a bright, rich color she cannot help but keep the tightest of eyes on it at all times. Such vibrant reds were so uncommon in the peasantry that she loves to show it off. It was a rare thing to have. Beyond her cape, she dresses very simply. A dark skirt and bodice over a linen shift, occasionally an apron over the skirt. Her only other defining characteristic is her mass of long tightly curled dark-blonde hair.
Personality: Naive and yet headstrong. Rowan has very little life experience, but makes up for that by doing anything she sets her mind to - even if it is a bad idea. There is a sweetness and an innocence to her, but mostly that of one who still believes there is good in everyone and everything. No matter how evil the exterior might be, something on the inside has the potential for good. She likes the soft things, the sweet things and the girly things. Things like flowers and animals make her smile, and she often dreams of living a fairy-tale life like a princess who might be whisked away by her knight in shining armor.
She is not nearly wary enough of strangers, something that has bitten back with memories that will haunt her for all time. Never will she forget what it was like trapped in the bowels of the wolf. Even with those memories, too quickly will she talk to strangers, give her name and talk about things that are best kept to those who are familiar.
Strengths: She was the girl that everyone liked, a girl you couldn't help but like. Rowan has a cheery personality most of the time and a bright, positive outlook on life that most find hard to ignore. Her biggest strength is her push-forward attitude that doesn't allow her to accept the low times for 'as good as it is going to get.' If she wants something, she is going to get it. Even if that means failures along the way.
Weaknesses: Unfortunately, this same attitude is what gets her in a great deal of trouble. Other than her naivete, Rowan's other main weakness is her trustworthiness. Never having had friends in the traditional sense, nor any siblings, she never really grasped how friendships were made, nurtured and lost. This makes her extraordinarily prone to being hurt both physically and emotionally.
History: Most everyone is familiar with the story of "Little Red Riding Hood," the little girl who was eaten by a wolf after said wolf devoured her grandmother when she took some food and wine to said grandmother's house. She was told not to stray from the path, but did so anyway after meeting the offending wolf and wandered off to pick some flowers to bring her grandmother. This allowed the wolf time to get to grandmother's house, eat her and await Rowan. After both women had been eaten, a hunter then came and cut them free.
Before this famous section of the tale, it is to be noted that Rowan was a very sheltered and protected child. Her mother raised her almost entirely on her own, the other source of Rowan's parenting comes from the grandmother she held so dear to her. Her father's whereabouts and profession are both unknown, having never been around long enough in the beginning to offer more than a name to the woman he had lay with one midsummer night. This name, whether it was his actual name or not is also unknown, had never been passed along from Red's mother to her daughter, seemingly unimportant.
Everything Rowan had ever done up until that day was with the strictest of instructions and usually with someone holding her hand through the ordeal, which is why when she was posed with the option by the wolf, she knew not how to respond to him.
The day following her rescue and onward, Rowan found herself quite enamored with the mysterious hunter who had saved her life. A crush of sorts. He was her knight in shining armor, minus that whole armor thing and the lack of being knighted. It was nothing more than a harmless infatuation which she had no idea of how to interpret or act upon. She had no suitors, nor any real interaction with men with which to experience the emotions that ran through her and having not been brought up with a masculine figure, there had been no witnessing of traditional courtship rituals.
As time went on and she moved away from the oppressive protectiveness of her mother, she began to hope that perhaps this mysterious savior of hers could be hers. So continuously, as she moved through life and the world around, she keeps a clever eye out for him. Not that she'd know what to do if she ever did find him, but the hope is still there.
Special Abilities: As one who lived a sheltered life, Rowan was never forced to learn any of the traditional skills becoming of a woman. She cannot cook very well, she cannot sew, nor is she apt with gardening. Her only real skills are her sense of direction, always seeming to remember not only which way she was going, but from whence she came (since she had quite the hike to her grandmother's home from her own); and also her memory. If presented with a bit of information, she will recall it no matter the situation.
She is adaptable and can learn things if someone takes the time to teach her properly. But that requires a certain degree of time and thus far, no one has really taken her under their wing.
Misc: I'd like, perhaps, for some plotting with a hunter if we ever get one and maybe a motherly figure that can take Rowan under her wing and teach her some more domestic skills.
